Kitchen design & build

Heart of the Home

Project overview

For this quickly evolving young family of four, their previous space just wasn’t working for them. The main objective was to stop their young inquisitive son from using the handles to climb onto the benchtops and stop him from hurting himself when closing the doors and drawers.

Having the ability to create customisable units is an asset shown in this beautiful kitchen. The design and layout have been well thought out, keeping the whole family in mind. We decided to maximize storage with a large corner pantry, the sink overlooking the backyard for a nice view and the ability to watch the kids while washing up. An overhang on the benchtop created a space where people could come and hang out while someone was cooking or baking. We added a 100mm Slab to the end to allow for a baby gate to be hung without affecting the functionality or aesthetics of the kitchen. Using a simple colour theme of black and white doesn’t have to be boring, and as you can see here, once a few pieces of colour are added, it really changes the room. We’ve used our top-of-the-range push to open and hardware for the handleless look. These make it a pleasure to use, smooth and quiet.

The splashback was commissioned by He Tohu Limited, collaborating with local artist Stephen Thorpe to create this beautiful taonga.
